How to move the pieces
- King: moves 1 square in any direction horizontally, vertically, diagonally.
- Queen: moves any number of squares in a straight line or diagonally.
- Rook: moves horizontally or vertically, unlimited number of squares.
- Bishop: moves diagonally, unlimited number of squares.
- Knight: moves 2 L-shaped squares in one direction and 1 square at right angles, can jump over other pieces.
- Pawn: moves 1 square straight, captures diagonal pieces; can move 2 squares on the first turn.
Basic rules
- Checkmate and checkmate: when the king is attacked, it is called checkmate; if there are no more valid moves, it is checkmate.
